Decision details

To authorise the expenditure of approximately £400k (final cost estimate awaited, will be included within the content of the scheme specific DCR) to facilitate a combined project of a classroom extension and roofing works to Brudenell Primary. These two tasks are required to fulfil the aims of the Learning Places Programme, necessary to ensure sufficient pupil places, and the Planned Maintenance Programme respectively. The increase in pupil numbers is to be effective from September 2016. The budget estimate quoted includes all necessary decant required to facilitate a late August 2015 occupation. Brudenell Primary School has been identified as the epicentre of projected pupil place demand within Headingley ward.

The Head of Service, Learning Systems agreed to:

·  authorise expenditure of £346,500 from capital scheme number 32274/BGE/BRU to enable orders to be placed for furniture for the identified schools within the Learning Places 2016 Bulge Cohort Programme;

·  authorise acceptance of the tender submitted by Leeds Building Services in the sum of £227,932. This figure is purely the construction work and is exclusive of NPS design development and ancillary costs;

·  note the programme dates identified in section 4.0 of the attached report in relation to the implementation of this decision. The final delivery date for this scheme is prior to the commencement of term September 2016; and

·  note that the officer responsible for implementation is the Built Environment Principal Development Officer.

Consultation has been on-going with the school management team, LCC Highways & LCC Planning Department. Ward member briefings are being issued periodically at key points in the project programme.
