Purpose:

The Director of Children & Families is requested to authorise the expenditure of approximately £499k (initial cost estimate provided by school and subject to review, final price will be included within the content of the scheme specific DCR) to facilitate the creation of new teaching accommodation to support the placement of a ‘bulge’ cohort at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School for commencement of the September 2017 academic year.  This is required to fulfil the aims of the Learning Places Programme, necessary to ensure sufficient pupil places.  The increase in pupil numbers will be effective from September 2017.  The budget estimate quoted includes all necessary construction works to facilitate this project, professional design fees, professional surveys and any necessary decant required to facilitate a late August 2017 occupation.  Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School has been identified as necessary to ensure sufficient pupil places are available in the for September.

Decision:

The Head of Learning Systems agreed to:

 

1.  Authorise expenditure of £436,656.36 from capital scheme number 32450/BGE/IHM to allow phase two of the ‘bulge’ cohort works at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School to commence over summer 2017.  This works forms part of the Learning Places 2017 Bulge Cohort Programme.

 

2.  Authorise acceptance of the tender submitted by Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School in the sum of £416,238.76 for delivery of phase two.  This figure is inclusive of all fees and costs incurred directly by Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School. 

 

3.  Note that the breakdown of project costs, highlighted in point 1 above, are detailed within section 5.5 of this report.

 

4.  Note that this report refers to phase two only, approval for the phase one works is subject to a separate programme and approvals report.

 

5.  Note the programme dates identified in section 4.0 of this report in relation to the implementation of this decision.

 

6.  Note that the officer responsible for implementation is the Head of Learning Systems.
