Decision details

Creation of an in-house compensation claims handling team to replace external contract which expires 31st March 2014

Reference: D41650

Decision Maker: Deputy Chief Executive

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To authorise the creation of an in-house compensation claims handling team managed by the council’s Insurance Manager. This will replace an external contract and achieve savings of £1.4m during 2014/19.

Decision:

Approve the creation of 7 new posts, to be phased in over 2 years, to undertake the claims handling function for liability claims handling. The cost of the new posts is more than offset by the saving in the claims handling fee paid to the provider under the previous arrangements. The costs of the new posts plus some related training and ICT costs saves the Council £1.3m over the next 5 years when compared to the previous cost of claims handling being undertaken by the insurance provider.

Reason Key: Expenditure > £250,000;
