The report of the Head of Locality Partnerships brings to members’ attention an update of the work which the Communities Team is engaged in, based on priorities identified by the Community Committee. It also provides opportunities for further questioning, or to request a more detailed report on a particular issue.
Minutes:
The report of the Head of Locality Partnerships presented an update on the work of the Localities Team.
The Locality Offer presented the report and the Community Committee Champions provided updates on the work of the sub-groups.
Environment and Community Safety
· There was concern that the police were understaffed in the Outer North West area.
· It was the view that the anti-social behaviour information should be kept to a summary only for the Update Report.
· Members were to be invited to a meeting on the refuse route review to discuss any local issues. It was noted that the route review was to start week commencing 18th September, and it was suggested that the Chair write to the Chief Officer, Environmental Services in relation to the concerns raised by Outer North West Members.
· Parks and Countryside project work was ongoing across the wards. The briefing had been good, and the concerns raised by councillors were understood and there would be ongoing maintenance and repairs.
· It was noted that work on a number of HAP projects had now stopped due to increasing costs of materials and the process of bidding may need to happen again.
· The subject of leaf clearance to be discussed at the next sub-group meeting.
· A Circular Economy Working Group had been arranged for Saturday 21st October 2023, invites had been sent to all Councillors of the Outer North West area
Children and Families
· The first meeting had discussed:
o Vaping among young children and the impact in the Outer North West area.
o Dental provision for children
o School places – Aireborough Learning Partnership Trust were to be invited to the December meeting of the Community Committee. It was suggested that an additional meeting of the Community Committee be convened to discuss this matter.
Health and Wellbeing
· This sub-group had met in July and an update had been provided on the matters discussed at that meeting which including Vaping, World Suicide Prevention Day, and Winter Vaccines: Rollout.
Employment, Skills and Welfare
· Figures in relation to employment and Universal Credit were provided in the Update Report.
· Members were of the view that events and career fairs were needed in the Outer North West area. It was noted that there was a Digital Careers Fair taking place at Leeds First Direct Arena on 26th September.
· A briefing note for Members was requested on Universal Credit and the figures to be clarified for the Outer North West area.
It was noted that the Transport sub-group was still to meet.
All Outer North West Wards agreed to keep the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) and to monitor it.
LEEDS 2023
Members were of the view that they would have liked to have been more involved with the planning of events, feedback suggested events worked especially well where they built on what was already happening, and there may be options for community Committees to work on similar events in the future.
BREEZE EVENTS
Members were of the view that these events had been fantastic in all wards with children of all ages attending, and it had been good to see so many people attending from outside the area. It was suggested that smaller scale play day events be discussed for the area.
