Leeds Philharmonic Society is one of the leading choirs in the North of England, performing to professional standards with internationally renowned soloists, orchestras and conductors. We have a long and distinguished History.
Since it was founded in
1870the Leeds Philharmonic Society has given concerts in
Leeds Town Hall. Many of these have been conducted by the
distinguished musicians who have held the post of Music Director,
including
Sir Edward Bairstow, Meredith Davies,
Sir Charles Groves, Richard Hickox,
Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Malcolm
Sargent and Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.
In addition, over the years, many other prominent musicians have
directed concerts including Sir Thomas Beecham, Sir Edward
Downes, Sir Alexander Gibson and Sir
Georg Solti. More recently, Martyn Brabbins, Paul
Daniel,
Alexander Dmitriev, Ivan Fischer,
Vernon Handley, Owain Arwel Hughes,
Andrew Litton, Steven Sloane, Yan
Pascal Tortelier and Sir David
Willcocks
have conducted concerts in which the Chorus has taken
part.
