Cardigan Centre

Description

The Cardigan Centre works in NW Leeds, particularly the inner-city neighbourhoods to facilitate social welfare, recreation, education and economic regeneration. It was established in the late 1980’s, starting originally with a building used for community activities and to house small businesses.

The Centre is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee and is managed by a board of directors which employs the thirty two members of staff.

As well as engaging in general community work the Cardigan Centre runs a Resource Centre providing office services, and four other specialised departments:

Youth Point uses information and one to one support as the basis for its work with young people.

Older Active People works to support older people by providing activities and services to enable them to continue to live in their own homes.

The Burley Handyperson Service carries out repairs, gardening and home improvements for local people.

Active 4 Life works to improve the health of local people.

The Cardigan Centre’s rooms (hall, kitchen and two meeting rooms) are hired out on an hourly basis. They are used by a variety of community groups, individuals and businesses.  Activities include yoga, martial arts, community meetings, conferences and parties.

The Cardigan Centre also has office space available.

The Cardigan Centre occasionally  has staff vacancies.

The Cardigan Centre is committed to promoting information about jobs, training and volunteering opportunities in the local area. Please contact the Resource Centre if you require any information in this regard.
