The two high rise housing blocks The Heights East and The Heights West need their existing electric space heating and hot water systems replaced.
This is an opportunity to pilot renewable technologies not previously used in the city.The project will involve the removal of electric storage heaters, and the installation of ground source heat pumps (GSHP) with linked installation of a new wet heating system in the flats.
This decision is to authorise the procurement of a contractor for these works. Feasibility activities are currently being progressed.
The Director of Resources and Housing:
• Approved this pilot scheme to replace heating and hot water systems in two high rise blocks, The Heights East and The Height West, and install ground source heating pumps (GSHP);
• Authorised spend of £1.94m from the capital programme over the financial year of 2020/21 for these capital works; and
• Approved the proposed procurement of an external contractor, for these specialist works via a direct award, under a competitively procured framework called Procurement for Housing (PFH).
