Leeds Jewish Welfare Board

Description

The Leeds Jewish Board of Guardians was formed on 25th February 1878, later becoming the Leeds Jewish Welfare Board).   

 

The initial objective was to provide relief to the Jewish poor in Leeds and the organisation has its first offices in the Belgrave Street Synagogue.  Leeds Jewish Welfare Board raises funds to support the work of Leeds Jewish Care Services, an independent organisation that delivers social care provision to the Jewish and wider communities.

 

Its objectives are:

 

  • To raise charitable funds to support the provision of welfare services in Leeds Jewish Care Services
  • To provide welfare meals and commercial catering activities
  • To manage the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Community Centre.
