The Neighbourhood Elders’ Team is a local voluntary organisation working with and for older people and their carers living in the East Leeds villages of Aberford, Allerton Bywater, Barwick in Elmet, Garforth, Great & Little Preston, Kippax, Ledsham, Ledston, Ledston Luck, Micklefield, Scholes and Swillington.
The organisation is both a registered charity no. 1088836 and a company limited by guarantee no. 422178. It was first established in April 1995 by the four churches in Garforth (Churches Together in Garforth). Charitable status was obtained in 2001, when it was also established as a company limited by guarantee.
The team is based on Main Street in Garforth. NET’s aims are: ‘to identify and respond to the needs of older people and their carers, to provide services that fill the gaps in statutory provision and enable older people to remain within their own community.’
The management committee comprises seven local people and there is a staff team of three. Some 90 volunteers work with the charity in a variety of roles.
